FOR GEORGIA STATE SUPERINTENDENT CANDIDATE

ALISHA THOMAS SEARCY

ATLANTA–

It promises to be one of the most noteworthy and newsworthy events of this election season in Georgia, particularly for students, parents and teachers across the state. On Monday, Aug. 22, 2022 at 6pm, a dialogue and declaration about a new future for education in Georgia will take place with two former U.S. Secretaries of Education under both the Bush Administration and the Obama Administration. The impetus: a time for bipartisan unity around the children – and future of those children in the ground-zero state of Georgia.

One is a former Obama appointee; the other a Bush appointee. That signals that Searcy will continue to work both sides of the political aisle as she did effectively throughout her career as a state legislator, and continue to win support from Republicans and Democrats alike.

“Yes, I am a Democrat, and those values inform how I see the world,” Searcy says, ” I also believe when it comes to education, that kids aren’t Democrat or Republican. They deserve adults who put party aside and do what’s in their best interest. So, this event demonstrates that we have national relationships that we can leverage to access the nation’s best thinking to benefit students in Georgia. I’m grateful I can call, not one but two, former United States Secretaries of Education, as policy advisors.”

Georgia is now in the spotlight and on the line for a global destination, world-class deliverable that will only happen under significant addressal of long-standing low performance in Georgia’s K-12 schools and school systems.

“Politics are divisive.  Education has become politicized,” opines Searcy, the mother of three school age children.  “When adults start fighting over politics and we become divisive, the only people who get hurt are our children.  So, as State Superintendent I want to be the convenor of people.  I am the kind of leader who facilitates dialogue and brings people together to find solutions; to solve some of our complex problems in education. This event for me is an example of the kind of bipartisan leader I will be to bring people together.”

This is a paid event, but registered media representatives are invited free of charge to write and report.
